Dragonwell, also known as Long Jing, is one of China’s top ten most famous teas. Dragonwell’s meticulous roasting and processing requires very skilled hands and great attention. During the Qing dynasty, Emperor Qianlong wrote poetry singing praises of the processing of Dragonwell, he held it in such high regard.

Dragons occupy many legends in ancient Chinese culture and Dragonwell owes its name to one of them. As the legend goes, there was once a small tea village that was suddenly hit with a severe drought. Responding to the crisis, a monk summoned a dragon to bring water back to the village’s barren well. The dragon’s tears filled the empty well and brought an abundance of water to the village. This special water brought with it the brilliant production of Dragonwell tea. The flat leaves of the tea are said to resemble the scales of the dragon that helped bring the village back to life!
