Butaman (“Buta” means pork, and “Man” means buns in Japanese) is a steamed bun made with flour skin and seasoned ground pork and vegetable filling. It is originated from Chinese pork buns, Baozi. The wheat flour wrap of Japanese Butaman is more soft and fluffy than Chinese Baozi. It is also called Nikuman (“Niku” in Japanese means meat) mainly in southern-center area of Japan.
